Where can the water free lawn be installed?
Virtually anywhere, including any areas where natural grass can"t grow (i.e. desert areas and extreme cold climates). All you need is a fairly level surface with a porous base that allows rainwater to seep into the ground through perforated
holes in the backing of the lawn grass.
What holds the water free lawn in place?
The lawn"s own weight (approximately 1 – 2 pounds per square foot) will usually be enough to weigh down the grass, but some in-fill is required to help the fibers stand up naturally and prevent “matting". Additionally, this infill will assist
in weighing down the lawn so it doesn"t wrinkle, shift, or move.
How does the cost of the water free lawn compare to installing a natural real grass lawn?
When you compare the costs and tasks required for a natural real grass lawn care, such as watering, mowing, weeding, edging, fertilizing, and spraying of toxic pesticides, it"s only a matter of time before the lawn actually pays for itself.
Is the lawn the same style synthetic turf that you see installed on patios as indoor/outdoor carpet?
No, absolutely no. Indoor/outdoor turf is usually installed as a glue-down on a cement pad and the fibers are short and not very dense. This style of turf grass does not look realistic and it does not last long in hostile climates. Our product
looks like real grass!
How long will the water free lawn last in outdoor environments and does it fade?
Our water free lawn carries a 5 – 8 year limited warranty (depending on style) against excessive wear, fading and sun.
What happens when it rains or snows?
During the manufacturing process, our lawn is specifically perforated with holes engineered to accommodate the normal drainage requirements of rain and snowstorms. The water simply drains through the small drainage holes into the ground. The
sand and rubber infill help absorb and hold the water which will eventually drain through. During heavy rains, some water will run off the top of the surface just as it would with natural grass or dirt. This is actually a big advantage over
rock, since the infill allows for evaporation and the perforated holes encourage vertical drainage. Please keep in mind that acid rain or while calcium deposits from extensive watering due to improper irrigation watering can lead to calcium
deposits on your lawn fibers.
Is the water free lawn subject to mold and is it flammable?
Natural grass will support the growth of mold more than synthetic grass. With proper drainage, standing/pooling water is eliminated and thus the mold issue in synthetic grass shouldn"t be an issue in most cases. As for flammability, the synthetic
grass is much less flammable that live natural grass (and many times less flammable than dead natural grass). The sand and rubber infill also helps prevent a fire from spreading and can often extinguish flames.
Will bugs be attracted to the synthetic grass?
No. Our grass doesn"t offer any nutrients for bugs to feed on. As a result, they will likely move to a yard with real grass. In addition, bugs have a difficult time coming through the perforated rubber backing.
Is the synthetic lawn safe for children to play on?
Yes. Just like a real lawn, but whether the grass is real or synthetic, safety when children are playing should be everyone"s first concern. Although our synthetic grass may feel and seem softer than real grass, we are not marketing this product
for safety issues, but for the beauty and maintenance savings issues of water less grass compared to that of real grass.
Is there any concern of exposure to lead in the infill?
No. Absolutely not. The United States Consumer Product Safety Council has tested numerous synthetic athletic fields. The evaluation concludes that children are not at risk from exposure to lead in synthetic fields. (Release #08-348, July 30,
2008)
How do you keep your water free lawn clean, especially when I have pets?
It"s simple, just like regular grass. Use a rake or leaf blower to clean up the leaves. To remove pet waste, you can just scoop it up and wash the area with a garden hose, just like you would real grass.
Can I install a water free lawn myself?
Yes, although we only offer a warranty when our products are installed by an SCI-certified landscaper.
How is the Mirage Turf different from other synthetic turf?
The difference between our turf fibers synthetic turf begins with the manufacturing process. Our specially designed spring set turf fibers are manufactured to interlock with each other, creating a realistic bent fiber look, just like “real bent
grass" greens.
NOTE: Most deep-in-filled synthetic turf has straight end fibers that must be sand filled and periodically rolled with a heavy water-filled sod roller. Our turf fibers have been manufactured to stand-up naturally. Unlike other synthetic fibers, our fibers have been made with a dulled finish, rather than made shiny. This helps create a natural, real look green.
How realistic is Mirage Turf?
Our turf is so realistic, we have manufactured “mower and grain pattern marks" in it! Our new Mirage Tour-Putt™ requires no deep sand in-fill, and it putts the same speed as most PGA greens. It is the most realistic synthetic bent-grass turn
on the market.
How does the turf hold up in an outdoor environment?
Our turf is assembled using the finest UV-treated polypropylene & nylon, water-resistant fibers. Our turf carries a 10 year warranty against excessive wear and facing. It resists normal rain, snow, wind, freeze and sun. Our turf has been
installed from the cold, freezing climates of Canada to the hot, arid deserts of the American west, to the rainy, humid areas of Hawaii and Florida.
Is the turf maintenance free?
Our putting surface is “hassle-free". Our non-deep-in-filled turf is as maintenance free as it gets, even when partially infill-assisted/weighted. Our specially designed, interlocking spring set fibers help hold the infill in place, while stabilizing
the root of the fiber. Even our infill-assisted/weighted greens are virtually maintenance free. Once installed, just keep the leaves and debris off the surface, just like you would a real putting green. You can even vacuum our turf.
Why shouldn"t I install a real grass putting green?
Real bent grass putting greens are expensive to install and require daily maintenance. Just ask a golf course superintendent or anyone who has owned a real grass putting green about the required maintenance, and I"m sure you will not want a
real bent grass green in your yard.
Can the putting green be sculptured with breaks and undulations?
Yes! Our putting green can be made to look just like real grass tour greens.
What size or shape can the putting green be?
Just about any size or shape you want can be constructed.
Can I chip onto my putting green?
Yes! Our special shock-absorbing backing, coupled with the spring action inter-locking fibers, make our surface “check-up" similar to most real grass greens. Please keep in mind that no synthetic putting surface will hold a ball exactly like
a real tour green, and don"t let anyone tell you differently. Our greens are as close as it gets to real grass greens.
On large custom greens, will the seams split apart over time?
No! Our seams and our turf are glued down to our proprietary base. We do not suggest loose-laying our turf on rock or soil. When using our proprietary space-aged under base system, our turf is glued into place. This process is unique to our
company only, and is called our “Firm Track Liquid Florathane System".
Is your turf the same style synthetic turf that you see installed on miniature putt-putt courses?
No. Absolutely not! Miniature golf turf is usually installed as a glue down on a cement, and their fibers are shot and not very dense. They putt very fast, and the turf does not last very long.
Can I install the putting green?
Yes, although we only offer a warranty when our products are installed by an SCI-certified landscaper.
